The Empire Grille is owned, operated and existing within the Venus de Milo. Originally founded in 1959 by Monsour Ferris, Venus de Milo has stood the test of time.
Our property has humble beginnings, operating as a bowling alley which served basic soda pop and fries. Monsour’s dream was to operate a 30 lane bowling alley. On the way to realizing that dream, the popularity of 10 pin, large bowling started to rise dramatically and many bowling leagues began to leave. Monsour made the decisive and forward thinking move to food and beverage. Expanding his operation and hiring the first chef the Venus de Milo would employ, Joe DeRosa, who created some of the most successful and long lasting recipes any restaurant has ever seen.
Expansion by expansion and now entering the third generation of family ownership, the Venus de Milo transformed with exponential success to 7 banquet rooms which can house in excess of 2,500 people and a fine dining restaurant. One of the most treasured and permanent things in the Venus is the ballroom dance floor. It is comprised of the original bowling lanes which are carefully maintained and that millions of people have danced and dined on.
Throughout the years, we have been influenced by employees, performers, industry leaders and ultimately friends such as World Famous Chef Emeril Lagasse, Steve Wynn, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Frank Sinatra, Danny Thomas, and many other people a great talent and skill.
We have garnished acclaim for our cuisine. Some of the top honors that they have received include awards from The Boston Harbor Chowder Fest and The Newport’s Chowder Cook-off (4 years in a row). They were also dubbed the “best baked-stuffed lobster in Southern New England” by none other than world-renowned chef, restauranteur and past employee Emeril Lagasse.
As the Empire Grille continues to evolve, our rich history and passion for what we do are the cores of our operation and will enable us to continue to give you the most graceful and elegant service in our area.
